Hibiscus Tea (Jamaica)

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flor de jamaica (dried hibiscus)
  • 1 liter water
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar (to your taste)

Instructions

  • Step 1 Place the flor de jamaica (dried hibiscus) in a pot with enough water to cover all the petals and set on medium heat. When the water starts to boil, lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Step 2 Place a strainer over the opening of a pitcher and pour the contents of the pot through the strainer into the pitcher.
  • Step 3 Put the hibiscus back in the pot and add more water to remove any additional color and flavor, then restrain into the pitcher.
  • Step 4 Add the remaining water to the pitcher along with 1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar.
  • Step 5 Stir until the sugar is dissolved and refrigerate. Serve chilled with ice.
